Number on a Team or Subtotal Group - Team Menu
This dialog controls how many players’ scores count toward team or group totals. Both values work the same way: SwissSys ranks players by score and counts only the top N scorers, ignoring the rest.

Team Cutoff
Sets how many of the top scorers on each team count toward the team’s total score.
Example: If a team has 7 players and the team cutoff is set to 4, only the 4 highest-scoring players’ scores are added together for the team total. The other 3 players’ scores are not counted.
If a team has fewer players than the cutoff (e.g., only 3 players with a cutoff of 4), all of their scores count.
Default: 999 (effectively counts all players on the team)
Effect on Team Ratings
The team cutoff also affects how team ratings are calculated. When computing a team’s average rating, only the first N eligible players (up to the team cutoff) are included in the average. This means the team cutoff controls team seeding and sort order, not just scoring.
Note: If the “Use initial team ratings” option is enabled in the pairing rules, team ratings are locked in before the first round and will not be recomputed when the team cutoff changes.
Fixed-Roster Team Tournaments
For fixed-roster events, this value also controls how many players from each team will be paired. If a team doesn’t have enough players to meet that number, they will be expected to forfeit the unplayed boards.
Default for fixed-roster: 4
Subtotal Cutoff
Works the same way as Team Cutoff, but applies to group-based subtotals (by club, city, state, zip, or memo field) rather than formal teams.
Example: If a school has 10 players and the subtotal cutoff is set to 3, only the top 3 scorers from that school are added together for the school’s subtotal.
This value only matters if you use the Subtotals by federation or other group feature on the Team menu.
Default: 999 (effectively counts all players in the group)
Alternative Access
You can also set these values from the tools menu of the team roster/standings dialog.
