Switch State and Federation - Players Menu
Resolves cases where FIDE federation codes are stored in the State field instead of the Federation field. This happens when an imported player database does not have a dedicated federation column.
When to Use This
Use this command when:
- You imported players from a database that stores FIDE federation codes (e.g., “RUS”, “GER”) in the state field.
- After importing, the federation column is empty but the state column contains federation codes.
- You need federation data to be in the correct field before generating FIDE reports.
Operations Available
The Switch state and federation dialog provides three buttons:
| Button | Effect |
|---|---|
| Trade | Swaps the state and federation fields for every player — state becomes federation and federation becomes state. |
| Copy | Copies the state field into the federation field for every player. The state field is not cleared. |
| Move if FIDE | Moves the state value into the federation field only for players whose state value does not match a recognized US/Canadian state or province code. Values that look like FIDE federation codes are moved; standard state abbreviations are left in place. |
Move if FIDE is the safest option for mixed-database imports. It leaves domestic players untouched while correcting FIDE players automatically. The operation is undoable via Edit → Undo.
