Find Player - Edit Menu
Opens the “Choose a player” dialog so you can locate a player by name and jump to that player’s row in the main view (the standings grid or wall chart). Use this to quickly find a specific player in large tournaments.
Menu path: Edit → Find player…
Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+F
Toolbar: Click the eyeglasses button.
Find player searches by name only. It does not search by pairing number. If you already know the pairing number you can read the player’s row directly in the chart.
The Choose a player dialog
Find player opens a modal “Choose a player” dialog. Type into the search field at the top and the list below filters as you type.

| Control | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Search field (“Type a name here.”) | Type any part of a player’s name to filter the list. The list updates on every keystroke. |
| Player list (“Or click on one in the list below.”) | Shows the players that match the current search text. Click a name to select it, or double-click to select and confirm in one step. |
| Match count | A small count to the right of the list shows how many players match the current search, for example (3). |
| Show all sections | When checked, the list includes players from every section, not just the current one. |
| OK / Cancel | OK confirms the highlighted player; Cancel closes the dialog without jumping. |
How the search matches names
The search is forgiving and works on any part of the name:
- An empty search field lists every candidate player alphabetically.
- Typing one or more words matches names that contain those words in any order (first name, last name, or a substring of either).
- The closest matches are listed first, and the top match is highlighted automatically, so you can usually just press Enter.
- If nothing matches exactly, SwissSys falls back to a “did you mean” fuzzy search that surfaces the closest names by spelling, which helps when a name is misspelled. The match count is shown with a tilde, for example
(~5), to indicate these are approximate matches.
Select the player you want and click OK (or double-click the name). SwissSys scrolls the main view to that player and highlights the row.
Show all sections
The Show all sections checkbox lets you search across every section in the tournament rather than only the current one. When it is checked:
- Each player in the list is shown with a
: Sectionsuffix so you can tell sections apart. - Selecting a player who is in a different section switches the active section to that player’s section before jumping to the row.
Choosing a player from another section with “Show all sections” checked changes the active section. After the jump, the main view shows the selected player’s section, not the one you started in.
Your Show all sections choice is remembered between sessions, so the dialog opens with the same setting the next time you use Find player.
