Ratings Report for FIDE

Generate a FIDE TRF (Tournament Report File) to submit tournament results for international rating.

Menu Path: Utilities → Rating reports → FIDE (Krause format)

What Is a TRF File?

The TRF (Tournament Report File) is the official FIDE format for submitting tournament results for international rating. It is a line-based text file with fixed field positions. SwissSys generates it automatically from your tournament data.

Generating the Report

Ensure all results are entered

All games must have results entered before you generate the final TRF. Missing results will produce an incomplete submission.

Open the FIDE report dialog

Go to Utilities → Rating reports → FIDE (Krause format).

Select the section

Choose the section from the list that you want to generate the report for.

Fill out the tournament information dialog

Enter tournament information as required (event name, arbiter, dates, location, federation).

Click Next to proceed.

Enter a filename for the report

Specify where to save the .trf file.

Enter round dates

Enter the date for each round. The date format follows your system’s locale settings.

Shortcut: Enter a date, then double-click a round in the list to copy that date to all rounds from the current one down. Useful for multi-day events.

Generate the report

Click OK. SwissSys writes the TRF file with UTF-8 encoding.

TRF File Requirements

For a valid FIDE submission:

  • All players should have FIDE IDs recorded
  • Player titles (GM, IM, FM, CM, WGM, WIM, WFM, WCM) must use standard FIDE notation
  • All games must have results entered — unplayed games must be marked appropriately

Submission

After generating the TRF, submit it to FIDE using their current rating submission procedures. Visit fide.com  for the latest submission guidelines.

Tools → Inspect FIDE Pairing Engine Input/Output shows the pairing engine’s input file (PrePair.trf), which is a different file from the FIDE rating report. To verify your rating submission, open the generated .trf file directly in a text editor.
