Classes - Players Menu
Assigns a class label to every player in the current section based on their rating. This is the fastest way to set up class prizes before pairing begins.
Class Systems Available
The Players → Classes submenu offers six options (including Clear all):
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Clear all | Removes class assignments from all players in the current section. |
| USCF default | Standard USCF letter classes (S, M, X, A–J) based on 200-point groups. Unrated players receive class “U”. Estimated ratings are treated as unrated. |
| USCF title system | 100-point groupings. The top bands use digits 1–4 (for 2900–2600), then S/s, M/m, X/x, and finally A/a through J/j. Provides finer granularity than USCF defaults. |
| Fide system | FIDE letter classes (M, P, X, A–E). Unrated players receive “U”. |
| Alphabetically by 100 pnts | Alphabetical 100-point groups starting from the highest ratings. |
| Alphabetically by 200 pnts | Alphabetical 200-point groups starting from the highest ratings. |
All systems overwrite the existing class field for every player. SwissSys will ask for confirmation before proceeding. The USCF default and Fide system assignments can be reversed via Edit → Undo; the USCF title system assignment is not added to the undo history.

Using Classes for Prizes
Once class fields are set, configure class prizes in the Prizes dialog to get an automatic breakdown of class prize winners with tiebreaks.
Set classes before generating prize standings. If you re-run this command after rounds have been played, prize calculations will update automatically to reflect the new class assignments.
