Scoring Point
The standard, non-adjustable point system in SwissSys follows traditional chess scoring with 1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
Standard Chess Scoring
SwissSys uses the internationally recognized chess scoring system:
- Win: 1 point
- Draw: 0.5 points
- Loss: 0 points
- Bye: 1 point (when applicable)
- Forfeit: 0 points for the forfeiting player, 1 point for the opponent
Alternative Scoring Systems
Some tournament systems use alternative point values, such as:
- 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw (football/soccer style)
- Different point scales for tie-breaking purposes
However, these alternative scoring variations are not supported in SwissSys. The software maintains the traditional chess scoring system to ensure compatibility with standard chess tournament practices and rating calculations.
Implications for Tournament Directors
When using SwissSys:
- All tournaments must use standard chess scoring
- Results are automatically calculated using the 1-0.5-0 point system
- Tie-breaking calculations are based on standard point values
- Rating reports use conventional chess scoring for submission to chess federations
This standardized approach ensures consistency and compatibility with international chess tournament standards and rating systems.
