Estimated and Provisional Ratings

Provisional Ratings

When you register players from online or from a database, they may show provisional ratings. You can have SwissSys flag these players with a “p” by the rating.

Starting with SwissSys 11.77, provisional rating handling is configured in the Rating Search dialog. Access this via the More Options button in the registration dialog options menu.

Provisional Rating Options:

• Ignore all - Treat provisional ratings as established ratings (no flagging)
• Warn me - Alert you every time a provisional rating is encountered
• Accept without warning - Flag provisionally rated players but don’t warn

Estimated Ratings

Similarly, if you enter a negative number for a rating, SwissSys will interpret this as an estimated rating and flag it with an asterisk while printing the estimated rating as a positive number.

For example, entering “-1500” will display as “1500*” on tournament reports, indicating that this is an estimated rating rather than an official one.
