Pairchart Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some practical questions about pairing adjustments. All of these questions presume the pairings are already made and you don’t want to redo them.

Most of these tricks involve first clicking on the toolbar button to display the replacement player list.

I just registered a late player. How do I pair him against the player that got the bye this round?

Click on the replacement player list button. From the list that appears, click on the name of the just-registered player and drag the name to the spot on the pair chart opposite the bye player, on top of the slot that says “bye”.

Then, if you want to give the just-registered player white, do a regular switch between these two players using the toolbar’s “S” button.

Two latecomers just showed up. How do I pair them against one another?

After registering the players, go back to the pairchart and click on the “Replacement player list” button. Decide which board you want them to play on, then drag the players, one at a time, to that spot.

For the first player, be sure you set the replacement list to one of the two “insert modes”.

For the second player replacement mode will be automatic so you don’t need to reset this.

Neither player showed up at one board. Can I just delete this matchup?

Yes. Click on either of the players, then bring up the replacement player list and hit its “delete pair” button on the top of the pair chart.

Keep in mind that sometimes just double-forfeiting them is easier and less confusing to the players.

I want to switch it so that two sisters don’t have to play each other. How do I do this?

For this kind of switch involving two players who are already in the pair chart, use the Switch feature. Click on the “Switch” button (marked with the “S”).

Then, one after the other, click on the two players whose places in the chart you want to interchange.

I forfeited a result by mistake. Do I need to do anything special to list the result as a non-forfeit?

No. Just click on a result button (e.g. the “Win” button), then click on the player who had that result.

I gave a latecomer a half-point bye for this round, and I want that to be listed on the chart. Can I do this?

Yes, Click on the replacement player list button and drag this player onto the bottom of the chart using one of the replacement list’s “insert after” modes.

You can then give this player any result you like, including “D” for a half-point.

Since there is no opponent, SwissSys will treat this as a bye.

How do I pair two bye players against each other if they are both already in the pair chart?

First delete one of them from the list by deleting them from the chart. That simultaneously transfers the player to the replacement player list, so you can then drag and drop him or her onto the pair chart again as the other bye player’s opponent.
