Pairchart Frequently Asked Questions
Common pairing adjustment scenarios. All solutions assume pairings are already made.
Most procedures require first clicking the replacement player list toolbar button.
How do I pair a late registrant against the bye player?
- Click replacement player list button
- Drag late player’s name onto the bye slot opposite the bye player
- To give late player white, use “S” (switch) button
How do I pair two latecomers against each other?
- Register both players
- Click replacement player list button
- Set replacement list to “insert mode”
- Drag first player to desired board
- Drag second player to same board (insert mode automatic for second player)
If SwissSys prompts because you tried to insert from the right side of the chart, choose one of the suggested alternatives and continue from the left side.
Can I delete a matchup if neither player showed up?
Yes. Click either player, open replacement player list, and click the Delete pairing button.
Alternative: Double-forfeit both players (often simpler and less confusing).
How do I prevent two related players from playing each other?
- Click “Switch” button (marked “S”)
- Click first player to switch
- Click second player to complete the switch
If one of the players is not currently paired, use the replacement player list instead of the Switch button.
How do I change a forfeit result to a regular result?
Click the appropriate result button (Win, Loss, Draw), then click the player who had that result.
How do I give a latecomer a half-point bye?
- Click replacement player list button
- Drag player to bottom of chart using “insert after” mode
- Give player “D” (draw) result
- SwissSys treats this as a bye (no opponent)
How do I pair two bye players against each other?
- Delete one player from the chart (transfers to replacement player list)
- Drag deleted player onto pair chart as opponent for the other bye player
When should I redo pairings instead of using replacement players?
Redo the pairings if:
- games have not started yet
- several boards would need manual changes
- you want SwissSys to produce a fresh, rule-based pairing instead of a local manual override
Replacement players are most useful for limited current-round fixes such as late arrivals, no-shows, or bye adjustments.
What should I do after manually inserting or deleting boards?
If the board list looks uneven, use Tools | Renumber boards in the pair chart.
In fixed-roster team events, large team-level changes are usually safer in the team-based pair chart than in the individual player view.
