Quad Tournaments
Quad tournaments are those in which the players are placed in groups of four, starting from the top-ranked players and working down. Each group of four, or “quad”, is then paired internally for a round robin tournament. If there are more than four in the final group, typically that group plays a Swiss.
It is easy to set up and run a quad thanks to the power and flexibility of the Tournament Setup dialog. Here is a step-by-step outline of how to set up quads (or octos) using SwissSys:
-
Register all the players for one “pseudo-section.”
-
Go to the Tournament Setup dialog and select the Tools | Quad Setup menu.
-
Enter the number in each section — 4 for quads, 8 for octos, etc. After you click OK, SwissSys automatically declares the sections you need, called “Quad1”, “Quad2”, etc.
-
Click Done and, when prompted, let SwissSys seed your quads with players from your pseudo-section.
Now that the sections are seeded, you can run the tournament as usual, treating each quad as its own mini section.
