Print and Other Options

This dialog page controls the appearance of miscellaneous features. Here are the options you can set: Smart printing - When checked, SwissSys uses what it calculates to be the best combination of printer orientation and column width adjustments.

Normally this will provide the most efficient use of paper and the best-looking charts, but if you want more control over the appearance of your printouts, turn this feature off and adjust the settings from the print setup dialog (on the file menu) instead.

Print first name first — You should register players in last-name-first format, but if this box is checked, most tables will show the names in first-name-first format.

Title before name — A player’s title goes before the name unless this is turned off, in which case it goes after the name.

Decimals — Use decimals or the “½” character in results.

Gridline dividers — For printouts you can either include lines separating the rows and columns or not.

Center data — If you prefer the way information looks when centered, check this box.

Time stamp for printouts — Check this if you want the time of a printout documented on the page.

Forced name format — This will make all player names you enter conform to the same format, either initial uppercase, all uppercase, or last name uppercase.

It is similar to the menu item in the Players menu, “Set uniform name format”, except that the latter sets all names to the designated format at once, whereas the former only sets names to the specified format when they are registered for the tournament.

In the case of initial uppercase, SwissSys does its best with hard names like Thad McSuits III, but you may have to set the name format to “none” and tweak a name here and there if your players are particular.

Default printed name width — This is used in the tables that use the default printer font, and for writing to text files when the “use tabs” option is turned off.

It determines how wide to make the name field.

Normal print magnification — Most charts can print out at sizes larger than the screen font. (They can also be smaller, but this is less common.) Setting this to 1 gives WYSIWYG printing, using the same font and size that is in the screen view of the chart. If you set this to 1.4, then the charts that are affected will print out at approximately 1.4 times magnification. This lets you cram lots of information on your screen, but keep things tidy when it comes time to print out.

At higher magnifications this feature will work best with landscape printing. With smart printing turned on, SwissSys will make its best guess here as to whether switching to landscape is in order. You may have to experiment with column widths to get them to fit nicely on the page, and you may need to omit some columns using the formatting options for the chart you are printing.

Pair chart print magnification — This works the same as the normal print magnification above, but is especially for the pair chart, which often deserves an extra level of magnification for high visibility.
