Club Lists
A club list is a text file that holds registration information on players so that you can enter them in a tournament more easily. Usually you will create a club list from SwissSys itself, so you usually need not worry about its exact format.
Creating a Club List
To create a club list, enter all the information about the players in your club as if they were about to play in a tournament. Include as much or as little registration information as you want. Then, from the File menu, choose Save as, and give the list a name ending in the “.txt” extension unique to text files.
Alternatively, you can choose File | Club | Write to club list.
Setting Up Your Current Club List
The next step is informing SwissSys that you want to use this list as your current club list. You can do this from:
- File | Club | Change current club menu
- The Registration Setup dialog (the “Setup” button)
- The Environment Options dialog (“Club list path”)
Importing Players from Club Lists
Now you are ready to import players from this list for any real tournaments you run. From the Registration dialog:
- Type the start of a player’s name
- Click on the “Import from Club List” button
- SwissSys searches the club list for a match on that name
- If successful, all stored information on that player will appear in the registration screen, ready for editing or confirmation
Additional Import Options
You can import from club lists based on:
- Player’s ID number
- Team affiliation
In the case of team import, you can import all players with a given team code, or just the ones you choose.
Loading Entire Club Lists
You can load an entire club all at once using either:
- The regular file open command
- File | Club | Read from club list menu command
This is handy when you know ahead of time who some of your players will be. You can register them as usual and save this information to a separate club list. Typically you would do this a few days before the tournament. Then, when you are at the tournament site getting ready to register all the other players, first read in this club list.
Important Note About Appending Players
If you do this preregistration read-in AFTER already registering some players, make sure you answer “append” to the prompt “Choose a method of reading the players.” Otherwise, reading in a club list will replace whatever information you have at the time, starting with a clean slate.
Updating Club Lists
You can update a club list after a tournament (and make club lists of unlimited size) using the Write to club command on the File | Club menu.
Technical Note
Advance byes are saved in club lists as numbers followed by a “z” for zero-point byes. This format is required if you change a club list manually or save byes to a database.
