Clipboard

Most of the charts and tables in SwissSys support selecting and copying text to the Windows clipboard. This allows you to perform standard copy and paste operations from SwissSys into other documents and text files.

For most SwissSys tables, use the “Edit” menu to access these functions.

To copy selected text to the clipboard

  1. First select it by dragging the mouse while holding down the left button. The selected text is highlighted.
  2. After you release the left mouse button, click the right button to bring up the clipboard pop-up menu.
  3. Most charts give you the option of copying only the text you have selected, or the entire list.

Note that the main pairing chart is an exception: the only copy option available is to copy the entire list.

Copying the entire list

To copy the entire list you can bypass the selection process and go straight to the pop-up menu. (Or use Ctrl-A as a shortcut.)

Troubleshooting

If you see no edit menu or if no pop-up menu appears when you click the right mouse button, then the chart you are viewing does not support clipboard operations and you will have to be content with a printout.

Formatting Options

SwissSys can either use tabs or spaces to keep the columns lined up. Using tabs usually is best, since you are then free to use proportional fonts.

Turn off the tabs (from the Format options | Export dialog) only if you plan to use a monospaced font (such as Courier) in your non-SwissSys application.

If you do use tabs when exporting to non-SwissSys applications, you may need to adjust the tab settings to get the look you are after. Also note that grid lines are not preserved in clipboard operations.

Selection Tips

While selecting text your columns may be automatically moved off the screen. When you are done with the selection, drag the mouse the opposite way to restore the displaced columns.

Size Limitations

Note: There is a size limit of 32K bytes for clipboard transfers. (This may vary depending on your system setup.) If you cannot copy the entire chart at one fell swoop you have two options:

  1. Copy and paste the data in smaller bites
  2. Use the “copy all to textfile” option to save to a textfile instead of the clipboard
