Ladder Rules - Setup Menu

This dialog controls how your ladder tournament is run. A ladder is a tournament in which players attempt to climb rungs by challenging and defeating players above them.

The first section of this dialog offers you some optional checks on pairings.

SwissSys uses your settings here to make sure that any pairings you enter are legitimate.

In some ladder tournaments, players are not allowed to challenge a player too many rungs above their own spot.

These settings help you and your players manage that.

If you plan to let SwissSys handle the pairings rather than leave the players to make their own challenges, check the box labeled “Randomize pairings within above limits.”

The second part of the dialog tells SwissSys how to seed players.

The third and most important part of the dialog tells SwissSys how to promote and demote players after a game. All the most common variations on ladder rules are included here.

The last part of the dialog tells you how to handle missed games. Some ladder rules require regular participation and penalize players who fail to show up.

Select your penalty options here.

To view the ladder and do the ladder pairings themselves, register your players, then select Pairings | Ladder.
