Create Report for Uploading - Internet Menu
Creating and Uploading a Report Manually
After you have opened your chart and it appears on your screen, if you click on “Internet” along the top of the screen, one of the choices in the drop down menu will be “Create report for uploading…”.
Click on that to create a file that you can upload to the SwissSys “Events” site for public viewing. This file will also be used by the ChessRoster website to generate various reports such as standings, pairings, a wall chart, and more.
Recommended: Use the new ChessRoster Platform Integration instead of manual file uploads. The automated sync feature provides real-time tournament updates without the need to manually create and upload files.
When to Use Manual Upload
Manual upload is best suited for:
- Uploading a completed tournament after the fact
- Sharing tournament data when auto-sync is not configured
- One-time or occasional tournament posting
For ongoing tournaments, the automated ChessRoster integration provides a better experience.
Enter a Name for the Tournament
You should choose a name that helps identify some details about the specific tournament. For instance, rather than call it the “Patzer Open,” give it a more descriptive name, like “Patzer Open, Montana, 2020”. This will help avoid the need to pick a new tournament name in case of a name conflict.
SwissSys will store the file on the Events site using a combination of the tournament name and the tournament director’s name.
Enter Tournament Information
After naming the tournament, fill in the rest of the other input fields. Fields marked with a * are mandatory; the rest are optional.
Note: the choice of USCF or FIDE column header style tells the display engine whether to use mathematical symbols for results (-, =, +, which is typical in FIDE events) or the L, D, W notation which is more common in the United States.
Formatting Options
Click the “Formatting Options…” button at the top of the window to access choices for:
- Print and Other Options
- Exports
- Registration list
- Wall Chart
- Standing
- Pair Chart
- Team Roster
Before Uploading
Before uploading the file, make sure all the information that you want to display is actually being shown in the SwissSys reports themselves.
For instance, if you want people to view tiebreaks with the online standings report, check that option in the SwissSys formatting options dialog.
With some exceptions, all of the options you choose to display will be reflected in the online posting.
If there are any sections that you do not want to make available in the report, make sure the “Exclude from batch operations” option is checked for that section in the “Current section settings” dialog of the Section menu. To learn more about using the Events website, see the topic Hosted Website.
