Prize Class Rating Ranges

This dialog, which you access via the Class Prizes page of the Prize Setup Dialog, tells SwissSys what rating ranges correspond to what classes when it comes time to divvy up the prizes.

It also sets the corresponding age/grade ranges if you want SwissSys to interpret what you enter here as being player age/grade rather than rating.

Setting Up Rating Ranges

In the grid, give each class a name (the defaults are “Class 1”, etc.), and enter the rating ranges for your classes in the next two lines.

As a short-cut, you can click on the buttons at the bottom that provide default class ranges and default “under prize” ranges.

Do not use 0 as the bottom of the range unless you want to include unrated players in that class.

This is one way of handling unrated players, but see the topic Rating range restrictions for some limitations in this regard.

Above the grid is a checkbox to tell SwissSys that these are age/grade values, not ratings.

Unrated Player Options

Below the grid is a checkbox labeled “Put unrated in top class only”. This is an alternate way of dealing with unrated players. If this option is checked, unrated players will compete for prizes only from the top class.

This setting is especially useful if you have a class such as “Expert/unr” in which you want unrated players to be eligible for only the top class prizes.

That would amount to a rating range of 2199-2000, with unrated players tacked on.

Rating ranges that include unrated players owing to this setting will be marked in the Class Prizes page of the Prize Setup Dialog with an asterisk to remind you that the class includes unrated players.
