Registering Players with the Network Database
This is a step-by-step guide to setting up your network for registration.
First steps
Do these first steps on each computer involved in player registration unless directed otherwise.
Step 1
On the main computer (only), create a tournament file as usual, declaring what all your sections are and where you want to store them.
They will be initialized in the desired folder with no players registered. Open this tournament file on each of the networked computers.
Step 2
Go to the Environment options dialog (Files and Databases page) and fill in the Network Database box with the name and location of the database you want to use to store player information in.
This database will probably not exist yet, and in most cases you will want to start a new network database from scratch with each new tournament.
Step 3
Go to the registration dialog and select Tools | Network mode.
Step 4
Register your players, making sure you list them in the proper section.
Note that at any given time, the player roster may not show a complete list of players. That list is maintained in the network database, not on the local machine.
Main computer steps
The next steps only need to be done on the main computer, or on whichever computer is to be dedicated to running any given section.
Step 5
On the main SwissSys screen, click on the section panel for the first section. The main view should show you an incomplete list of players for that section.
From here you are ready to import each section, either all at once, or one-by-one into the computers responsible for handling them.
Step 6
Select Database | Import database. In the dialog that appears, choose the options to import from “network database”, to import in “overwrite” mode, and to import either only the first section or all sections at once, as you choose.
Step 7
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each of the sections in the tournament if you are doing one section per computer.
Alternative: Setup after advance registrations
If you forgot (or just don’t want) to setup your network database before taking advance registrations, you will do the same process as above, but with these modifications:
Before doing step 3 above, you must save all your advance entry players to the network database so that they will not be omitted when you import it in step 6. Do this by loading each section (making sure you use the same section names that you declared in step 1), and choosing the Database | Create/update database menu command.
When prompted, request to update the network database, not the main database. When you have done this for each of your sections with advance entries, you are ready for step 4 and the hubbub of on-site registration.
