Your Player Profile
Your player profile stores the information ChessRoster uses to pre-fill registration forms, calculate distances to nearby tournaments, and link your account to your USCF rating.
First time? You don’t need a USCF ID or a chess rating to use ChessRoster. You can browse and register for tournaments right away — a USCF ID is optional.
Opening Your Profile
Sign in and go to chessroster.com/profile . You must be signed in to view or edit your profile.
Profile Fields
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name | The name shown on registrations and rosters |
| Read-only — your sign-in email address | |
| Phone number | Optional — US or Canadian number; used as your default registration phone number |
| ZIP code | Used to calculate distances to nearby tournaments |
| USCF ID | Optional — links to your US Chess rating record |
All editable fields use inline editing — click a field to edit it, then save or cancel.
CFC and FIDE IDs are not managed on your profile page. If a tournament requires a CFC or FIDE ID, you can provide it during registration.
Setting Your ZIP Code
Your ZIP code lets ChessRoster calculate how far away each tournament is. Without it, distance filtering on the tournament search page requires using the “Near Me” button to share your live location.
Click the ZIP code field
The field becomes editable inline.
Enter your 5-digit ZIP code
ChessRoster converts it to coordinates for distance calculations.
Save
The ZIP code is stored on your profile and used automatically when you search for tournaments.
Adding Your USCF ID
USCF (United States Chess Federation) is the national organization for US players. It maintains ratings and membership records for over-the-board chess.
Why add your USCF ID?
- Registration forms pre-fill your ID and current rating automatically.
- You qualify for member pricing if an organizer offers membership discounts.
- You can enter federation-rated sections (some sections require a verified rating).
How to add it:
Click the USCF ID field
The field opens for editing.
Search or type your ID
Search by name or enter your USCF ID number directly. Select your record if multiple results appear.
Save
Your ID is stored and linked to your profile. Your current rating is fetched from USCF data when needed.
Phone Number
Adding a phone number sets a default for tournament registration forms. It is used as your default registration phone number when you are signed in.
US and Canadian numbers are supported. ChessRoster validates the format before saving.
SMS pairing notifications are opt-in per tournament. Adding your phone number here does not automatically subscribe you to notifications — you choose during registration.
To opt out of all ChessRoster SMS messages at any time, reply STOP to any message we send.
Passkeys
Passkeys let you sign in with Face ID, Touch ID, or a hardware security key instead of a password. You can add and manage passkeys from your profile page.
Passkeys are optional — you can continue using your existing sign-in method (Google, Microsoft, Apple, or email magic link) if you prefer.
Preview Features
You can opt in to preview features directly from your profile page. Preview features give you early access to experimental functionality before it is released to everyone.
- Toggle the switch under Preview Features to enable or disable.
- Preview features may change or be removed and might have minor bugs.
- No admin approval is required — you can enable preview features yourself.
