Team Registration
Some tournament sections use team registration — players form teams and compete as a group. This guide covers how to create a team as a captain, share your join code, manage your roster, and how players join an existing team during registration.
Team registration is only available on sections that the organizer has configured for team play. If a section does not support teams, the standard individual registration flow applies.
Creating a Team (Captain)
Any player can create a team when the section uses self-service enrollment.
Go to the tournament page
Open the tournament and click the Teams tab. If you do not see a Teams tab, the tournament does not have team-enabled sections.
Click Create a Team
Click the Create a team button. You must be signed in to proceed.
Fill out the team wizard

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Section | Pick which section your team will compete in |
| Team name | A unique name for your team within the section (max 255 characters) |
| Seats to create | How many players your team can hold (within the section’s size limits) |
| Join policy | How seats get filled — only shown when the section uses “Captain decides” |
Get your join code
After clicking Create team, you receive a join code — a 6-character alphanumeric code your teammates will enter during their registration.

Copy the join code and share it with your teammates before they register. They will need it during the registration process.
Go to your team dashboard
Click View team dashboard to manage your team’s roster.
Managing Your Team (Captain Dashboard)
As captain, you manage your team from the dashboard at My Team (accessible after creating a team, or via the Teams tab).

What You See
- Team header — your team name, section, status, and rule compliance chips (Size and Rating show green when your team meets the section’s requirements)
- Share panel — your join code with copy button
- Roster table — every seat on your team showing:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| # | Seat number |
| Role | Captain or Player |
| Status | Open, Reserved, Invited, Claimed, Paid, or Removed |
| Player | Player name (once joined) |
| Player email (once joined) | |
| Payment | Whether the captain or player pays for this seat |
| Actions | Invite, resend, cancel, or remove actions (see below) |
Seat Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Open | No one has claimed this seat yet |
| Reserved | A player entered the join code — awaiting their payment |
| Invited | An invitation was sent to a player |
| Claimed | Player completed registration and claimed the seat |
| Paid | Player’s payment is confirmed |
| Removed | Player was removed from this seat by the captain |
Inviting Players
If the organizer has enabled captain invitations, you can invite players to open seats:
- Click the mail icon on an open seat row
- Enter the player’s name and email address
- Click Send invite
The seat status changes to Invited. You can resend or cancel the invitation from the same row.
In the current version, invitation emails may not be delivered automatically for captain-initiated invites. Share the join code directly with your players as a reliable backup.
Removing Players
Click the delete icon on any filled seat to remove the player. The seat reverts to Open and becomes available for someone else.
Locking the Roster
When you are satisfied with your team composition, click Lock roster in the Team Management card. This:
- Prevents new players from joining
- Blocks further roster changes
- Shows a LOCKED status chip on your team
Locking is permanent — once locked, only the tournament organizer can make changes.
Rule Compliance
Two chips on your team header indicate whether your team meets the section’s rules:
- Size — green if your filled seats meet the minimum team size; red otherwise
- Rating — green if your team’s combined rating is within the section’s rating limits; red otherwise
These are informational during roster building. Check them before the tournament to ensure your team is eligible.
Joining an Existing Team (Player)
If your captain has already created a team, you join it during the registration process.
Start registration normally
Go to the tournament page, click Register, and fill in your player information as usual.
Select the team section
Choose the section your team is registered in. If the section supports teams, a Team Choice step appears next.
Enter the join code

In the Team Choice step:
- Type the 6-character join code your captain shared with you
- Click Look up — the team name and available seats appear
- Click Join this team to reserve your seat
Your seat is immediately reserved on the team roster.
Complete payment
Proceed to the payment step and pay as usual. After payment, your seat status on the team updates to Paid.
If the section allows solo entry, you also have the option to Register solo — skip the team and register as an individual player.
What If the Code Does Not Work?
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| ”No team found for that code” | Double-check the code with your captain — codes are case-insensitive |
| ”That team is in a different section” | Make sure you selected the same section as your team |
| ”That team is full” | All seats are taken — ask your captain to add more seats or remove someone |
| ”This team requires an invitation” | The team uses invite-only — ask your captain to send you an invitation |
| ”This team has been locked by the captain” | The captain locked the roster — contact them or the organizer |
Viewing Teams on the Tournament Page
Every tournament with team-enabled sections shows a Teams tab on the tournament detail page. This is a public view — anyone can see it.

The Teams tab shows all teams grouped by section with:
- Team name and captain name
- Status (Open, Full, Locked, etc.)
- Seat fill rate (e.g., 3/4 seats filled)
- Combined team rating
- Size and rating rule compliance
Use this tab to see which teams have open seats before you register, or to check your own team’s status after joining.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I be on more than one team? No. Within a team section, you can only be on one team. You can register for other sections individually, but each team section limits you to a single team.
Can I leave a team after joining? Contact your captain — they can remove you from the seat. After removal, you can join a different team.
What happens if my team does not meet the size or rating rules? The Size and Rating chips on the Teams tab and captain dashboard will show red. The organizer may enforce these rules before the tournament starts, but they do not block registration.
Can I create a team after pairings start? No. Once pairings have been generated for a section, team creation and roster changes are blocked.
