Tournament Page Guide

Every tournament on ChessRoster has a detail page with tabs showing registration info, registered players, section details, results, and more. This guide explains each tab and who can see it.

Opening a Tournament Page

Go to chessroster.com/tournaments , find the event, and click its name. You can also use the link shared by the organizer or find the event through your My Registrations page.

Tabs Overview

The tabs shown depend on tournament configuration and whether certain features are enabled.

Info Tab

The default tab when you open any tournament page.

What you will find:

  • Tournament name, dates, and venue (with map link when coordinates are set)
  • Entry fee range and time control
  • List of sections and rating organization badges (USCF, CFC, FIDE)
  • Organizer name and registration deadline
  • Register button to start online registration
  • Full tournament description and any bundle offers

Click Register to begin. If registration is closed or not offered through ChessRoster, the button is not shown.

Roster Tab

Shows players who have completed registration, grouped by section.

Use this tab to confirm your own registration appears before the event. The tab is visible when the tournament has open registration or at least one confirmed registration.

Tournament directors see additional columns on the Roster tab, including who submitted each registration.

Sections Tab

Shows detailed information about each tournament division.

What you will find:

  • Section name and rating limits (for example, Open or Under 1600)
  • Entry fees per registration tier (early, regular, late)
  • Number of registered players and any capacity limit
  • Registration and withdrawal deadlines
  • Bye configuration (which rounds allow half-point or zero-point byes)

Review this tab before registering to confirm you meet the rating eligibility and to check whether a section is full.

Reports Tab

Shows standings and crosstable results as the director publishes them. Results may appear in real time during the event or only after completion.

What you will find:

  • Final standings with scores
  • Crosstable showing results round by round — which player you faced, the result, and running score

Projected Pairings Tab

Shows a simulated first-round pairing based on current registrations, generated before the tournament starts.

This tab is only visible when the organizer has explicitly enabled projected pairings for the tournament.

Projections are recalculated automatically as players register or withdraw. Use this tab as a rough estimate only — the actual round-one pairing after check-in will differ.

Pairings Tab

Shows round-by-round pairings — board numbers, colors, player names, ratings, and results.

How to read pairings:

  • Each row shows two players, their ratings, and the board number.
  • The player listed first plays White; the second plays Black.
  • After results are entered, each game shows the score.
  • Use the section selector to switch between divisions.

Pairings appear after the director uploads them from SwissSys. The page polls for changes every ~30 seconds — you will see updates without reloading.

The Pairings tab is currently available to preview users only. If you do not see it, check the Reports tab for published results.

Reports (Preview) Tab

An enhanced version of the Reports tab with additional data views. This tab is available to users who have enabled preview features on their profile.

The Reports (Preview) tab is currently available to preview users only. If you do not see it, use the standard Reports tab for published results.

Live View

The Live View is a TV-optimized display that rotates through standings, pairings, and results in real time. It is available at:

https://chessroster.com/tournaments/[slug]/live

Replace [slug] with the tournament’s URL slug. The /live path redirects to the embeddable live view display. You can also find it linked from the tournament page if you have preview features enabled on your account.

The Live View tab on the tournament page is currently available to preview users only. The direct URL above works for everyone once the director has uploaded results.

SMS Pairing Notifications

If you opted in to SMS notifications during registration, and the tournament has notifications enabled, you will receive a text message when round pairings are released. Each message includes:

  • Tournament name and round number
  • Your color (White or Black), opponent’s name and rating, and board number
  • Round start time (if configured and space permits)

If you have a bye, the message reads: “You have a bye this round.”

SMS pairing notifications are a preview feature and may not be available for all tournaments.

A bar fixed to the bottom of the screen shows the tournament name, dates, entry fee, and a Register button when registration is open. It stays visible as you scroll between tabs.

Admin Bar

If you are a tournament director or organizer admin for this event, an admin bar appears at the top of the page with quick links to Edit and Manage. An overflow menu provides additional options: Live View, Export to SwissSys, Upload Reports, and Delete Tournament.
