Editing and Deleting Tournaments
Only staff members of the organizer can modify tournaments on ChessRoster. This includes tournaments uploaded under a Personal Organizer, which is the default organizer profile automatically created when a tournament is uploaded to ChessRoster without an associated Organizer profile existing on the site.
Staff Access Required - You must be logged in and associated with the tournament’s organizer to see the editing options. If you don’t see the gear icon on a tournament page, you may not have the necessary permissions.
How to Edit a Tournament
To modify an existing tournament:
Navigate to the Tournament Page
Go to the specific tournament you want to edit on ChessRoster.
Access the Info Tab
Click on the “Info” tab on the tournament page.
Open the Settings Menu
Look for the gear icon and click it to open the tournament settings menu.

Select Edit Option
In the gear menu, click the “Edit” option to modify tournament details.

No Gear Icon? If the gear icon doesn’t appear, either: - You’re not logged into your account - You’re not associated with the tournament’s organizer - You don’t have staff permissions for this organizer
What You Can Edit
When editing a tournament, you can modify various details including:
- End Date: This field isn’t automatically set when tournaments are uploaded from a SwissSys Web Report (a report exported from the web reporting form in SwissSys v10 or v11)
- Tournament description and details
- Registration settings
- Other tournament parameters
Deleting Tournaments
To delete a tournament, follow the same steps as editing, but select the “Delete” option from the gear menu instead.

Deletion Restrictions - Tournaments cannot be deleted if they have any registrations made through ChessRoster. This protects player data and registration history.
Should You Delete Old Tournaments?
Historical Value - Old tournaments do not need to be deleted from ChessRoster. They can remain on the site for historical purposes, allowing players and organizers to reference past events and results.
Keeping historical tournament data provides several benefits:
- Players can review their past participation
- Organizers can reference previous event details
- The chess community maintains a record of tournament activity
- Rating and statistical data remains intact
